Focusing on quality and commitment to excellence for over 100 years, the Marshalltown Company has grown to become one of the world's largest manufacturers of masonry and related hand tools.
Dave Lennox owned and operated his own machine shop in downtown Marshalltown, Iowa. In 1893, he was approached by John Stine, a local stone mason, and asked to make a "better" trowel. Apparently, Stine was dissatisfied with the quality of the trowels he had used previously. Lennox fashioned the first Marshalltown trowel implementing several of Stine's suggestions. But, due to other interests, he turned the trowel-making over to two of his apprentices, E.L. and J.C. Williams.
